1 Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
1 Stirring spoon
1 Citrus juicer (optional, for fresh orange and lime juice)
1 Knife and cutting board (for garnishes)
Glasses for serving
Ice cube trays or ice maker
- 1 Cup Dried hibiscus flowers
- 4 Cups Water
- ¼ Cup Honey or agave syrup (adjust to taste)
- ½ Cup Fresh orange juice
- ¼ Cup Fresh lime juice
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Orange and lime slices for garnish (optional)
Prepare the Hibiscus Infusion:
In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Once boiling, remove the pot from heat and add the dried hibiscus flowers.
Cover the pot and let the flowers steep for 15–20 minutes. This allows the flowers to release their vibrant color and tart flavor.
Strain and Sweeten:
After steeping, strain the liquid into a large pitcher to remove the hibiscus flowers.
Stir in the honey or agave syrup while the tea is still warm to ensure it dissolves completely. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
Chill and Serve:
Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill.
When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled hibiscus tea over the ice.
Garnish and Enjoy:
Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves, and slices of orange and lime for an extra burst of flavor and color.
Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing taste of homemade Iced Hibiscus Tea.
- For a sweeter tea, increase the amount of honey or agave syrup.
- Add a splash of sparkling water for a fizzy twist.
- Fresh hibiscus flowers can be used if available; however, dried flowers are more commonly found and work just as well.
