Instructions
 

  • Prepare the glass:
    Start by selecting a short, wide glass (a double old-fashioned glass works perfectly). Fill the glass with ice to chill while you mix the cocktail.
  • Mix the ingredients:
    In a cocktail shaker, combine the white rum, orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, orgeat syrup, and simple syrup. Add a handful of ice to the shaker.
  • Shake it up:
    Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds. You want the ingredients to mix well and chill thoroughly, but be careful not to over-dilute the drink.
  • Strain into the glass:
    Dump the ice from your glass, and strain the cocktail mixture into the chilled glass over fresh ice.
  • Add the dark rum:
    Slowly pour the dark rum over the back of a spoon held just above the drink's surface. This will allow the rum to float on top, creating a beautiful layered effect.
