Equipment

  • Large Saucepan – To melt the butter, marshmallows, and peanut butter.
  • Wooden Spoon or Heat-Resistant Spatula – For stirring the mixture.
  • 9x13-inch Baking Dish – To press and set the Rice Krispie mixture.
  • Non-Stick Cooking Spray or Butter – For greasing the baking dish.
  • Measuring Cups – For accurately measuring the ingredients.
  • Mixing Bowl (optional) – If you prefer to mix the cereal separately before adding to the marshmallow mixture.
  • Sharp Knife – For cutting the treats into squares once they’re set.

Ingredients

  • 6 Cups Rice krispies cereal
  • 1 Cup Creamy peanut butter
  • 1 Package of mini marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 4 Tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 Tsp Sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare Your Pan
Start by greasing a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray. This will prevent the treats from sticking to the pan, making them easier to remove and serve.
  • Melt the Butter
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Be patient and let the butter melt slowly to avoid burning it, which could alter the flavor of the treats.
  • Add Marshmallows
Once the butter is fully melted, add the mini marshmallows to the saucepan. Stir constantly with a spatula until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Incorporate the Peanut Butter
Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately stir in the peanut butter. Mix until the peanut butter is fully combined with the melted marshmallows. The heat from the marshmallows will help the peanut butter to melt and blend smoothly.
  • Add Vanilla and Salt
If you’re using vanilla extract and sea salt, stir them in at this stage. The vanilla will add a lovely fragrance, while the sea salt will balance out the sweetness.
  • Mix in the Cereal
Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the peanut butter mixture. Stir gently but thoroughly to ensure that every piece of cereal is coated with the marshmallow and peanut butter mixture.
  • Transfer to the Pan
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Use a spatula or your hands (lightly greased) to press the mixture evenly into the pan. Be careful not to press too hard, as this can make the treats too dense.
  • Cool and Set
Allow the treats to cool completely in the pan. This usually takes about 30 minutes at room temperature. Once set, you can cut them into squares or any desired shape.
  • Serve and Enjoy!
Your Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats are ready to be devoured. Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh and chewy.
