  • Large Mixing Bowl: To toss the sweet potatoes with olive oil and seasonings before roasting.
  • Baking Sheet: A rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to roast the sweet potatoes evenly.
  • Small Bowl: For mixing the maple pecan topping ingredients.
  • Spatula or Tongs: For stirring the sweet potatoes halfway through roasting.
  • Small Skillet (Optional): To lightly toast the pecans for extra flavor before adding them to the sweet potatoes.
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons: For accurately measuring ingredients like maple syrup, butter, and seasonings.

Ingredients

For the Sweet Potatoes:

  • 4 Medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 Tsp Sea salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Tsp Black pepper

For the Maple Pecan Topping:

  • 3/4 Cup Pecans, roughly chopped
  • 3 Tbsp Pure maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp Unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil for dairy-free option)
  • 1 Tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Ground nutmeg
  • A pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Sweet Potatoes
Preheat the Oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Toss the Sweet Potatoes – In a large bowl, combine the diced sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, cinnamon, and black pepper. Toss until all the pieces are well-coated.
Spread Evenly on the Baking Sheet – Arrange the sweet potatoes in a single layer to ensure they roast evenly. Crowding them can cause steaming instead of roasting, so give each piece a little room to crisp up!
  • Step 2: Roast the Sweet Potatoes
Roast for 25-30 Minutes – Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for about 25-30 minutes or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender and starting to caramelize around the edges. Give them a good stir halfway through cooking to ensure even roasting.
Tip: For extra caramelization, you can broil the sweet potatoes for 1-2 minutes at the end. Watch them closely to avoid burning!
  • Step 3: Prepare the Maple Pecan Topping
Mix the Topping Ingredients – While the sweet potatoes are roasting, combine the chopped pecans, maple syrup, melted butter (or coconut oil), brown sugar, nutmeg, and sea salt in a bowl. Stir until the pecans are well-coated with the sweet and spicy mixture.
Toast the Pecans (Optional but Recommended) – Heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add the pecan mixture and toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly until the pecans are fragrant and slightly caramelized. This step deepens the flavor and adds a beautiful crunch to the topping.
  • Step 4: Assemble and Serve
Sprinkle the Maple Pecan Topping – Once the sweet potatoes are done roasting, transfer them to a serving dish and sprinkle the maple pecan topping evenly over the potatoes.
Serve Warm – Enjoy these roasted sweet potatoes with a cozy main dish like roasted chicken or as a delightful holiday side. They’re best served warm when the flavors are at their peak!
